Installing Extensions

There are two methods to perform the installation of Dreamweaver extensions. Each will be discussed below.

The most important issue to address first is to ensure that you have the latest version of the Extension Manager (EM) installed. The EM can be downloaded from the Macromedia web site. Please follow the installation instructions provided.

The second most important thing, is to download the extension to your local hard drive. The Extension Manager (EM) does not install from the web through an ftp or http connection properly!

If installing an extension in Dreamweaver MX, ensure that the extension is MX compliant. If it is NOT compliant, then you *could* get various erroneous errors when you run Dreamweaver after the extension installation!

Method A.

Use when you have only 1 version of Dreamweaver installed on your computer

Start the Extension Manager
Select the application the extension is for (this is a necessity because not everyone programs the installer file properly to force the proper program to install the extension).
Select File > Install Extension...
Navigate to where you downloaded the extension on your hard drive
Depress the Install button.
Follow the prompts from there.

Method B.

Use when you have more than one version of Dreamweaver installed on your machine. The reason is that the EM will install the selected extension into the last installed version of Dreamweaver.

Start the desired version of Dreamweaver
Select Help > Manage Extensions...
The EM should automatically start.
Select File > Install Extension...
Navigate to where you downloaded the extension on your hard drive
Depress the Install button.
Follow the prompts from there.

Related Extensions

Third-party extensions add functionality to Dreamweaver, and can be downloaded from the Dreamweaver Exchange (www.macromedia.com/exchange/dreamweaver/).

Snippets Tool Kit Myhyli@Blueidea.com	You can import other snippets files to the appointed category, or export the snippets files to everywhere, for backup or exchange. Unlimited sub-directory supported! If the folders do not contains .csn files, it will be ignored. And if the files are not .csn type, it will be ignored, too. You also can search the folder or snippets files match your keyword. (Tip: * to match all) When you finished searching, if the result is not empty, you can select a snippet file, then apply the code to your selection in the page by click the Apply button.
